Target employee tells the lady at the self-checkout section 'You can't leave'—turns out it actually saved her life

Women’s safety is a growing concern in modern society. Every day, we watch the news and hear about another woman being harassed or assaulted in public.

Even security cameras installed in shopping malls and convenience stores are ineffective in dangerous situations. Nina Sotom (@ninasotom on TikTok) was out shopping at Target, but she was about to have both a negative and a positive experience in a matter of minutes.

In her TikTok video, Sotom stated that as she was about to leave after her shopping spree and reached the store’s self-checkout counter, Target security personnel stopped her and prevented her from leaving.

Sotom was initially perplexed, but she eventually realized why the security personnel acted the way they did. While Sotom was browsing the racks at Target for an hour, the security guard was keeping an eye on the woman.

After completing her purchase and collecting her payment, the Target staff informed Sotom that she was still not permitted to leave. Sotom assumed she was detained because they suspected her of shoplifting.

The woman was losing her patience and wondering what the whole thing was about. “I remember grabbing my receipt and holding it flat out because I know that little camera up there can read the smallest print,” Sotom told me.

While the Target employees spoke with another woman and kept Sotom waiting. The other lady turned out to be the security guard who approached Sotom and revealed a shocking truth.

Sotom was informed that a suspicious person was following her around the store and secretly photographing her. “I’m so sorry I didn’t catch it earlier, I would have thrown him out,” the security guard apologized, according to Sotom.

The security guard then assured Sotom that the troublesome man had left the shop and was no longer a threat to her safety. Sotom was even led to her car by a security officer.

Sotom was grateful for everything Target security did for her, which saved her from a potentially dangerous situation. “Even if that man was just being creepy and sending those pictures to a random person,

it makes me as a woman feel so secure and safe to know that other people are watching out for me, and it’s not just me watching out for me,” she said in her video, thanking the security personnel for their vigilance.

In a separate comment under the video, Sotom explained that her mother called the police, who then contacted the Target store. They were taking precautionary measures to ensure their safety.

The comment section applauded the alert security who was handling Sotom security with absolute professionalism.
