Every month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) makes Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments to millions of recipients, and payment dates are occasionally changed if the first falls on a weekend or federal holiday, shifting them to the prior working day. For example, because January 1, 2025 was a Wednesday and a holiday (New Year’s Day), the payment was moved to December 31 of the previous year.
The first of June is a Sunday, so the deposit is made on May 30th. This policy aims to ensure that beneficiaries receive payments without delay due to bank closures. Official sources clarify that there are no duplicate SSI payments in October or December, despite some claims claiming otherwise.
SSI payments for the rest of 2025
The SSA specifies that payments are changed only if the first of the month is a non-business day, with no other exceptions. This includes days such as September 1 (Labor Day), which comes on a Monday and must be scheduled prior to August 29.
Some months show double payments, while others show no SSI payments at all, which might be perplexing; nonetheless, it is important noting that the agency distributes a total of 12 annual payments, one for each month. Neither more nor less:
- January: Payment on December 31, 2024 is overdue.
Reason: January 1 is a holiday (New Year’s Day, Wednesday). - Due to February 1st falling on a Saturday, the payment for January 31, 2025 is delayed.
- March 1st falls on a Saturday, resulting in a delayed payment of February 28, 2025.
- April 1st, 2025 is a Tuesday and not a holiday. Payment is due on time.
- May 1st, 2025 is a Thursday and not a holiday. Payment is expected on schedule.
- June: Payment on May 30, 2025 is overdue.
Reason: June 1st falls on a Sunday. - July 1st, 2025, is a Tuesday and not a holiday. Payment is due on time.
- August 1st, 2025, is a Friday and not a holiday. Payment is due on time.
- September: Payment on August 29, 2025 is overdue.
Labor Day (Monday holiday) falls on September 1. - October 1st, 2025, is a Wednesday and not a holiday. Payment is due on time.
- Due to November 1st falling on a Saturday, the payment for October 31, 2025 is delayed.
- Payment is delayed for November 28, 2025 owing to December 1st falling on a Sunday.
Let us now discuss the amounts: the maximum feasible for individual SSI beneficiary in 2025 (December inclusive) is $967, while the most possible for a couple living together and applying for benefits together is $1,450.
There is one item that is virtually obsolete: “essential person.” This is an additional $484 payment for persons who receive assistance with even the most basic daily chores.
