Another thing they have not told you about Social Security is that January is almost over. If you were expecting one more payment in the last few days of the month, you might be in for a surprise.
The Social Security payment schedule for January 2025 promised several payments, but not everyone will get an extra payment in the last few days of the month. Others, meanwhile, have already seen their payments show up since January 8. You did not know that yet, though, right?
What you should know about payment dates in January 2025
This month, payments are still coming in quickly, and there are important dates for those who receive them. Do not worry if you have not received your payment yet; there is still time! In fact, the rest of the payments are spread out over two main dates.
And first, on January 15, a lot of the people who will get the money will see it in their accounts. The last payment for this month will be made on January 22 to end the cycle.
But not all people who get money are as lucky as those who wait until the 15th or 22nd. Congratulations if you are part of a group that has already been paid! That payment already came on January 8, and you will not be getting any more for the rest of the month!
What about the first group’s payment?
A certain group of people have already received that payment: those born between the 1st and 10th of any month, who were ahead of everyone else. If you are in this group, the payment has already been made, and you will not get another reimbursement in January.
On January 15, the second payment of the month will be sent. People born between the 11th and 20th of any month fall into this group. If you were born in that range, your time has come.
To those who already got their payment on January 8, a happy new year! Still, do not worry—you still have a few important dates left to get yours, and maybe your date of birth is in one of the other two groups whose money is about to arrive in a few days.
If you are having trouble getting your Social Security payment, make sure that your account information is correct. This is especially important if you get your payments by check instead of direct deposit, which can take longer to arrive.
You can also look at the SSA payment schedule to make sure that your payment date has not already passed or that the schedule has not been changed. If the delay does not go away, you should call the SSA office closest to you.
The Social Security payments just arrived for the rest of the year
The most you can get from Social Security each month in 2025 is $5,108, but this amount changes based on your retirement age. The maximum benefit depends on a number of things, including your age at retirement, your annual salary, your work history, your taxable earnings, and whether you are married or single.
For instance, people who retire later in life may get a bigger benefit, and the amount you will get depends directly on how much you make each year. To get the most out of the benefit, you must have worked for at least 35 years and made at least the maximum amount of money that is taxed during that time. The amount of the benefit may also depend on whether or not you are married.
Early filers, on the other hand, can expect their benefits to be cut by 25% to 30% for good. Before the SSA starts taking away benefits in 2025, people who file their taxes early can earn up to $23,400 ($1,950 per month).
Also, because of the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), Social Security recipients will get an extra 2.5% in 2025. The raise will start with the December 2024 payment, but it will show up first in the January 2025 payment.
