Millions of Americans rely on Social Security payments as their primary source of income, and those who applied for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will receive their payments this week. SSI is available to blind or disabled adults and children with limited or no income.

This Friday, January 31, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will distribute SSI payments to claimants nationwide. SSI payments are typically made on the first of the month; however, this is not always the case because payment dates coincide with federal holidays or weekends.

The SSI program will deliver up to $967 for individuals this Friday

In a 2022 blog post, the SSA stated that it does this to avoid financial hardship and to ensure that you do not have to wait until the beginning of the month to receive your payment. You do not need to contact us to report the second payment because it does not mean you received two payments in the same month.

According to the SSA, if a payment does not arrive as scheduled, you should wait three working days before contacting the government organization. Weekends and federal holidays are not working days.

The maximum monthly SSI payment for 2025 is $967 for an individual and $1,450 for a couple, up from $943 and $1,415 in 2024, respectively, due to the annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), which went into effect at the beginning of this year. This is a smaller increase than in previous years.

Following a period of high inflation caused by the coronavirus epidemic, the COLA increased payments by 3.2% in 2024 and a significant 8.7% in 2023. The amount a recipient receives is determined by factors such as income, type of disability, and the number of people living in the claimant’s household.

According to the Congressional Research Service, the federal government’s average SSI payout in February 2024 was $697.

Mary Johnson, an independent policy analyst for Social Security and Medicare, says the 2025 COLA will be the lowest Social Security seniors have received since 2021. At the same time, rising costs for necessities such as housing, groceries, auto insurance, and any type of maintenance or repair continue to exist.

Even if the COLA was the lowest since 2021, a 2.5 percent COLA would be considered average. The next SSI payment will be made on February 28—a day earlier than usual—to those who have applied for retirement income from the Social Security Administration.

When will beneficiaries receive their Social Security payments in February?

Every month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) must make millions of Social Security payments to beneficiaries of the retirement, survivor, and disability insurance (RSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs.

Because the SSA has over 72 million beneficiaries, they created a monthly payment schedule so that people know exactly when they will receive their benefits. According to this schedule, beneficiaries will receive their checks in February, as follows:

  • On February 3rd the federal agency will deliver monthly paychecks to all beneficiaries who applied for benefits before May 1997.
  • On February 12th, beneficiaries who qualify for the RSDI program and were born between the 1st and the 10th will get their Social Security payments
  • On February 19th, beneficiaries who qualify for the RSDI program and were born between the 11th and the 20th will get their Social Security payments
  • On February 26th, beneficiaries who qualify for the RSDI program and were born between the 21st and the 31st will get their Social Security payments
  • On February 28th, SSI recipients who meet income and resource requirements will receive their Social Security payments in advance as the first of March falls on a weekend.
