California Governor Gavin Newsom invited President-elect Trump to visit the state to see the devastation caused by wildfires, meet with victims, and express gratitude to first responders.
As fires raged across California on Friday, the governor sent a message to Trump.
Newsom cautioned against politicizing “human tragedy” and spreading “disinformation.”
“In the spirit of this great country, we must not politicize human tragedy or spread false information from the sidelines. Hundreds of thousands of Americans who have been displaced from their homes and are concerned about the future deserve to see all of us working together to ensure a speedy recovery and rebuild,” Newsom wrote.
“With respect and an open hand.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Newsom’s office for comment on Saturday, but received no response. The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
Trump has been attacking Newsom, even claiming that he should resign as governor.
“One of the best and most beautiful parts of the United States of America is burning down. It is ashes, and Gavin Newscum should resign. This is entirely his fault!!!” the president-elect stated in a Truth Social post this week.
In a separate post, Trump accused “Gavin Newscum” and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass of “gross incompetence.”
