This was a tragic ending for baby New Year.
The illegal migrant accused of beating his 2-month-old daughter to death on Long Island was photographed with the baby, looking like a loving father, just months before he allegedly snapped and killed the child after becoming convinced she was not his.
Marlon Rabanales-Pretzantzin, 20, was photographed smiling with little Liseyda Rabanales-Barrios and his partner, Olibia Barrios Cifuentes, as the then-happy family celebrated the fact that she was the first baby born in Queens at 12:28 a.m. on January 1, 2025.
According to the qns.com article, Rabanales-Pretzantzin and Barrios gave birth to the baby girl at Queens’ St. John’s Episcopal Hospital on January 1 at 12:28 a.m.
A photo accompanying the piece shows the happy couple holding the adorable baby and smiling in a hospital room, a stark contrast to the cold-blooded crime charged against Rabanales-Pretzantzin.
The small clan was even given a variety of baby items to help them get started, including a diaper bag, a baby play center, a baby book, and several toys. There was even a car seat attachment and baby monitor to ensure the child’s safety.
According to the article, the baby’s name is Jimena Sulemia, which differs from how police identified the child; however, neighbors confirmed to The Post that it is the same family.
The owner of a bodega two blocks from Rabanales-Pretzantzin’s home in the town of Inwood said that, before the illegal migrant snapped, he “looked like a good father” who frequently went for diaper runs.
“He arrived here last week. He was looking for pampers and was in a hurry,” Bayview Deli’s owner explained. “He was looking for size 5 pampers and wanted the bigger box so it would last longer.”
“He seemed like a good kid. “He was young, but he appeared to be a good father,” said the deli owner, who asked not to be identified.
Marlon Rabanales-Pretzantzin allegedly slapped the baby in the face, punched her in the stomach, and violently shook her inside his Inwood home on March 7, according to a criminal complaint.
He then allegedly threw her onto a bed and pressed his fist into her chest, causing ribcage injuries and a fractured vertebrae, according to police.
He was charged with murder Wednesday after allegedly admitting to killing the young girl.
According to cops, Rabanales-Pretzantzin illegally crossed the border between Mexico and El Paso in 2022. He was apprehended by Border Patrol and then released. He is currently being held without bail.
