Flint man clocked at 107 mph in an I-75 construction zone; pistol confiscated

Independence Township, Michigan — Last week, a Flint man was arrested after being pulled over for exceeding 100 mph on I-75 in a construction zone while carrying a gun in his passenger seat.

According to Michigan State Police, the 28-year-old driver was pulled over at 4:50 p.m. last Wednesday on I-75 in Oakland County’s Independence Township near Clarkston for traveling 107 mph.

Investigators say the driver appeared nervous during the stop and admitted to having a firearm in the car. Troopers discovered a Canik 9mm with a loaded magazine in a bag on the passenger seat.

The weapon was seized by police at the scene. Reports on the incident will be forwarded to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine whether criminal charges will be filed.

The driver had not been arraigned on formal charges, so authorities had not identified him by Monday morning.
