Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive their payments on November 29, 2024, as December 1 falls on a Sunday.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) adjusts payments when they coincide with weekends or Federal holidays.

Below, we’ll discuss how payment amounts are changing for 2024 and 2025, who qualifies for SSI, and additional support programs available.

Why November 29 Is the Payment Date for December SSI

Normally, SSI payments are issued on the first day of the month. However, when that date falls on a non-business day, payments are sent earlier.

This year, December 1 falls on a Sunday, so recipients will get their December SSI payment on Friday, November 29, 2024.

Payment Amounts for 2024 and 2025

Maximum SSI Payments in 2024

  • Individuals: $943
  • Couples: $1,415

Increased Payments for 2025 (with COLA adjustments):

  • Individuals: $967 (an increase of $24)
  • Couples: $1,450 (an increase of $35)

These changes are due to the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2025, which reflects inflation and ensures recipients can maintain purchasing power.

Eligibility for SSI Benefits

Not everyone is aware that they may qualify for SSI. If you’re not a current recipient, check the eligibility requirements below:

  1. Income Level: Applicants must have a low income.
  2. Resources: Applicants should have limited assets or money in their bank account.
  3. Age/Disability: Applicants must either be blind, have a disability, or be 65 years or older.

If you meet these criteria, visit the SSA website to apply or check eligibility.

Additional Support Programs for SSI Recipients

SSI payments are compatible with other programs such as:

  • SNAP (Food Stamps): Provides assistance with groceries.
  • Medicaid: Offers health insurance coverage.

If you’re an SSI recipient, make sure to explore these programs to maximize your benefits.

SSI payments are a lifeline for millions of low-income Americans. This November, SSI recipients will receive their December payment early due to scheduling adjustments.

For 2025, COLA increases will raise the maximum payment for individuals to $967 and for couples to $1,450. If you’re not yet receiving SSI but meet the eligibility requirements, consider applying to benefit from this essential program.
