The Social Security Administration will start sending out new retirement payments to U.S. citizens in a few hours. If one of these checks is approved, we should check the requirements to see if we qualify as eligible Americans.
If that happens, we will benefit from a new check with a higher amount, because the payments in 2025 will be different from the 2024 Social Security checks. Keeping this in mind, we can easily tell if we will get the payment on this day or on another day in January.
Who gets the new Social Security with the increase?
To receive your Social Security payment this January, you need to meet two requirements. If we meet both conditions, we will be able to access the check. If not, we will just have to wait for another day because there are more payment days this month.
To enjoy this benefit on January 15th, you need to meet two requirements:
- To have a retirement after May 1997.
- To reach your birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month.
If we are in this group, we will be able to enjoy the Social Security check this week, since on the 15th of January, the third Wednesday of the month, the Administration will send payment to this group. It is important to remember that it does not matter if our retirement benefits are for age, disability, or other reasons.
All retirees in that group can receive the check, no matter what kind of retirement they have. Remember, to receive your payment on the same day the Social Security Administration sends the check, you need to have Direct Deposit set up.
The amount we receive today will be more than what we will get in January 2024. This is due to the COLA, which has raised benefits by 2.5% for everyone this year. In 2025, the maximum Social Security benefit is $5,180, but not everyone in America will receive this amount.
