A powerful 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck off New Zealand’s coast near Riverton, raising tsunami concerns across the country, according to local authorities.
The Wellington Region Emergency Management Office announced that they are assessing the possibility of a tsunami affecting parts of New Zealand, but have not confirmed any immediate threat.
“We are aware of an M6.7 earthquake at 2.43 on March 25, north-west of Snare’s Island. The National Emergency Management Agency and GNS are currently assessing whether there is a tsunami risk to New Zealand,” the agency stated.
