Police in Kentucky stop a U-Haul truck carrying children on its way to Florida

Do you need a cheap Chevrolet Suburban to transport all of your children and belongings? Using a U-Haul truck isn’t the safest option. In fact, a couple traveling to Florida was recently charged after cops discovered a slew of children in the back of their rental.

Kentucky police find U-Haul truck with kids in the back heading to Florida

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office dispatched deputies to a Love’s Truck Stop around 8 a.m. after receiving complaints about a U-Haul truck. It was parked near a gas pump.

Witnesses called to report seeing into the rear cargo department, which was filled with children. As officers investigated, they discovered six passengers locked in the back. They were riding in the back of the cargo department, which had no ventilation.

Eight people were reportedly traveling from Michigan to Florida. Six of the passengers were forced to ride dangerously in the back.

The driver, Brandon Campbell, was charged with seven counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. Heather Campbell, his partner in crime, has been charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.

According to Yahoo, Liana Robertson was also involved. She faces six counts of first-degree attempted wanton endangerment.

Wanton endangerment refers to actions that pose a significant risk of death or serious physical harm to another person, while demonstrating disregard for life.

The adults and children in the back of the U-Haul truck may have suffocated. The heat inside the cargo compartment could have resulted in severe dehydration or death. Maybe the couple should have rented a bigger passenger SUV instead.
