SHERIFF CANDIDATE JOE IBARRA paused for a moment during his Thursday, May 19 fundraiser for a photo with his family. The event, which was held at GiGi’s Banquets & Catering in Corunna, was attended by more than 60 people and featured entertainment by comedian Chris Young.
As a candidate for sheriff, Ibarra is looking forward to serving the residents of Shiawassee County, and he hopes to bring the county’s police agencies together. More specifically, Ibarra thinks the sheriff’s department is “too top heavy” and has gotten a little complacent over the years. Ibarra plans to fix those problems by getting out from behind his desk and being active in the community. He said community involvement and being approachable are keys to the job and something he intends to bring back to community policing, should he be elected. He also intends to seek creative, alternative revenue sources that could help revitalize the department without further taxing the county and its residents.
