The Youth Advisory Council of the Shiawassee Community Foundation received a $500 grant from generationOn and Disney Friends for Change to help low-income families receive the supplies needed to make a Thanksgiving Dinner. The YAC matched the funds, which enabled them to help 40 Greater Shiawassee County families.

Many volunteers from the community, along with members of the Youth Advisory Council were on hand to package the “Caring Cornucopias” on Family Volunteer Day, Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Salvation Army. The Greater Lansing Food Bank donated some of the items, and the rest was purchased by grant money.

Packages included a turkey, a bag of potatoes, a bag of onions, a can of corn, a can of beans, dry goods, bread/rolls, stuffing, cranberries, and a dessert if they desired. After packaging, families were able to pick up the “Caring Cornucopias” at noon.
