A man was arrested after the body of an Indian National Congress staffer was discovered stuffed in a suitcase on a highway over the weekend.
Sachin alias Dhillu, 30, was arrested by police in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Himani Narwal, according to the Times of India, Hindustan Times, and The Haryana Story. It is unclear whether he is entered a plea or hired an attorney to speak on his behalf.
According to the Times of India, Narwal’s body was discovered stuffed in a suitcase near a bus stop on the Rohtak-Delhi highway in Sampla, India, on March 1.
The investigation led authorities to Dhillu, Narwal’s Facebook friend, in less than two days. The phone shop owner is accused of strangling Narwal with a cell phone charger following a financial disagreement, according to director general of police (ADGP) Krishan Kumar Rao at a press conference cited by The Haryana Story, Times of India, and Tribune India.
According to Rao, Dhillu allegedly stole Narwhal’s phone, laptop, and jewelry before dumping her body.
“After killing her, he stuffed her body in a suitcase, transported it to an isolated area in Sampla, and abandoned it in the bushes near the bus stand,” the police claimed in the press conference.
The victim’s mother, Savita Narwal, told India Today that her daughter had been a member of Congress for a decade and frequently spoke out on issues within the Bharat Jodo Yatra movement.
