Boston, Massachusetts — A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, with snowfall expected to range from 3 to 6 inches by early Monday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts the heaviest snowfall between 6 p.m. Sunday and midnight, at rates of up to 1 inch per hour. While the snow is expected to melt before the Monday morning commute, untreated roads will likely remain icy due to sub-freezing conditions.
The advisory affects several communities, including Plymouth, Taunton, Fall River, Brockton, Newport, and Warwick. Snow may begin as rain before transitioning to a consistent snowfall by late afternoon.
Travelers are advised to exercise caution, especially during the evening hours, when visibility may be reduced significantly. Those planning to drive should budget extra time and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall.
The NWS recommends slowing down, leaving plenty of space between vehicles, and preparing emergency kits before traveling. Residents should also keep an eye out for local updates on the storm’s trajectory and intensity.
The advisory will be in effect until 7 a.m. Monday.
