Winter weather advisory for Houston and Trinity counties until 6 p.m. on Tuesday

Houston, Texas – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Houston, Madison, and Trinity counties until 6 p.m. Tuesday, with snow expected throughout the region.

The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts total snow accumulations of about an inch. The snow may cause hazardous travel conditions, particularly during the Tuesday morning and evening commute. Groveton, Trinity, Madisonville, and Crockett are among the hardest hit communities.

Residents are urged to drive cautiously and prepare for potentially slippery roads. Before traveling, the Texas Department of Transportation recommends that you call 511 to check on current road conditions.

The snowfall is a rare occurrence in the region, which typically has mild winters. The advisory warns of lingering effects until Tuesday evening, as temperatures may remain near freezing.

Travelers should allow extra time, reduce speed, and keep a safe following distance. Officials advise against unnecessary travel during peak commute times if possible.
