The National Weather Service reported that winds in Michigan reached 57 mph on Saturday, leaving thousands without power Sunday morning.
Power companies reported that more than 26,000 customers were without power as of 8 a.m. on Sunday.
The National Weather Service reported that much of the state experienced winds of more than 30 mph throughout the day, with gusts reaching 57 mph in some areas.
Consumers Energy reported over 22,000 customers without service on Sunday morning. DTE reported approximately 7,300 power outages in its service area.
“Our Storm Response Teams are working around the clock to restore power as quickly as possible,” Consumers stated on its outage website. “Stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines, keep children and pets away, and report the issue by calling 9-1-1 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050.”
How much rain did Michigan get?
The highest precipitation totals on Saturday were in southwest Michigan, where Holland reported 0.45 inch of rain and Kalamazoo reported 0.43 inch. Other parts of Michigan reported smaller amounts, including Detroit, which received only 0.05 of an inch.
On Sunday, the National Weather Service predicted more rain and some snow as temperatures drop to begin the week.
“A cold front will move through the area early in the day, causing temperatures to drop through the afternoon. “High temperatures in the 50s this morning will drop to the 30s by this evening,” the NWS Detroit office said on X. “Rain will transition to rain/snow or even all snow this evening before we dry out.”
The Grand Rapids NWS office reported that the high in west Michigan reached 70 degrees before cooling.
