THE SHIAWASSEE ARTS CENTER officially opened its first exhibit of 2018, featuring the works of James Fagan of Okemos, Tom Tomasek of Ovid, and the Michigan League of Handweavers. The exhibit will run through Sunday, March 11 and is sponsored by CLH Insurance Agency, Alan and Julie Sorenson, Todd and Shelly Sydow, and Joy Welty. A public reception is planned for Sunday, Feb. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Above, Tom Tomasek, stands beside one of many pastel pieces he has created for the exhibit. Tomasek is an award-winning artist with a passion for both landscapes and pastels. His technique involves generally working from dark to light, thus creating varying textures and transparencies, and an unusual depth/richness of color. His favorite landscapes are Michigan wetland areas because they are “little islands of primal land. Untouched.”

The Shiawassee Arts Center is located at 206 Curwood Dr, Owosso and is open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
