Ann Arbor, Michigan – The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has terminated the lease for the US Fish and Wildlife Service’s Ann Arbor office space. According to the “Wall of Receipts” on the DOGE website, the termination of the 4,800 square-foot space was issued on March 3, but it did not appear on the website until this week.
The office, at 1451 Green Rd., is no longer listed on the United States Fish and Wildlife website. While details are limited, DOGE claims that the cut will save the federal government $336,220 in total, as the annual lease was $86,301.
The closure is the latest in a series of DOGE cost-cutting measures for the federal government. The agency, led by billionaire Elon Musk, was established through an executive order signed by President Donald Trump in January. Trump has tasked DOGE with modernizing “federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity.”
Musk has directed DOGE employees to reduce the budgets of numerous government agencies through layoffs and the cancellation of grants, contracts, and leases.
While DOGE claims to have saved the government $130 billion, the agency has not provided hard evidence of these savings. Critics have pointed out that some of the “savings” reported by DOGE relate to grants or contracts that have already been paid out.
DOGE has previously announced lease cancellations for federal office space in a variety of areas across the state. The Social Security Administration has closed offices in Okemos, Baraga, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Marquette, Sault Ste. Marie, and Traverse City.
