JOPLIN, Missouri — The public comment period for a local utility company’s rate increase request ends in just over a week.
Liberty Utilities has nearly doubled its request to the Missouri Public Service Commission, asking for a 152-million-dollar increase, or approximately 30%.
Liberty submitted its initial request for 92 million, representing a 16 percent increase, in November.
For a customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours, this would cost an additional $33 to $39 per month.
The Public Service Commission plans to make a decision by January 2 of next year.
Anyone who wants to make a comment on the rate hike has until March 25.
One option is to call the commission at 1-800-392-4211.
