NCG Cinemas was the recipient of the 2016 Chamber Chairman’s Award, presented in a surprise announcement Wednesday, Jan. 20.
NCG Cinemas is getting ready to open their 20th location. The original building (which housed 3 cinemas), was built 30 years ago in 1985 by Jeff and Joe Geiger’s father. Now, the operation expands seven states.
Wednesday was the kick-off day for the new popcorn in Owosso. Jeff’s brother Joe is the owner of “I’m All Ears Popcorn Company.” The popcorn will be served in all NCG Cinemas and sold to other cinemas.

The Chairman’s Award is one of several awards given by the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce. The Chairman’s Award is presented to an individual, business or organization that demonstrates a longstanding commitment to the Chamber of Commerce. The Chairman’s Award is selected at the discretion of the Chairman of the Board. This year Board Chair Tom Kurtz has chosen Neighborhood Cinema Group (NCG) of Owosso as the Chairman’s Award recipient.
Chamber Board of Directors Chairman Kurtz stated, “NCG has been a member of the Shiawassee Chamber since 1990. Over the last 30 years, NCG has expanded operations, not only in Owosso, but across the country. In 2015, the cinema partnered with I’m All Ears Popcorn Company, to sell Shiawassee County grown popcorn in all cinema locations and support a unique local agribusiness.”
NCG of Owosso is a family owned theater chain that started with one theater in 1985 in Owosso and has grown to 20 locations in 7 states. NCG offers a quiet, enjoyable theater setting, featuring first-run movies with favorite stars. Neighborhood Cinema Group will be formally honored, along with the recipients of the Citizen of the Year, ATHENA Award, Chairman’s Award, Mission Award and the Outstanding Business Awards, at the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner on Thursday, Jan. 28 at D’Mar Banquet & Conference Center, Owosso.
