Suspect in drunken driving death of Saginaw County mother of two is arrested after fleeing hospital

SAGINAW, Michigan — Police have arrested a man on suspicion of drunkenly killing a Brant mother of two in a single vehicle accident.

Amanda O. Rogers, 32, died in a crash on Jan. 19 when a truck collided with a tree in the 12000 block of Ring Road in St. Charles Township.

Rogers was found dead in the truck’s passenger seat by emergency responders. The driver fled on foot before police arrived, but they soon discovered him nearby.

The 31-year-old St. Charles man was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries, but he left before being officially discharged.

The investigators met with prosecutors, who advised them to find and arrest the man. Sheriff’s deputies did so, booking him into the county jail around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, on a charge of driving while intoxicated, resulting in death.

MLive will not release the man’s name until he has been arraigned in Saginaw County District Court.

Rogers is survived by his son and daughter. According to her obituary, she worked as the manager of Riverfront Assisted Living Center in Chesaning and was very proud of it.

“Her smile could light up a room, and she was loved and cherished by many,” the obituary reads. “Amanda enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, and she loved photographing all of their fun activities.

You would never see her without her hair and nails done. She had a generous heart and would do anything to help those in need.”

Rogers’ funeral will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home – Martin Chapel in Chesaning on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. On Monday, January 27, visitation is scheduled from 2 to 7 p.m.
