The Owosso Staples, 1580 E. Main Street will close Aug. 8. Bruce LeBlanc, an escalated customer relations specialist at the Staples corporate offices in Framingham, Mass., confirmed the store closure in a July 28 telephone interview.

Staples like many other corporations are in the midst of what is termed “right-sizing” their companies to meet the demands of in-store, on-line and mobile service to their customers.

LeBlanc read from a corporate statement about the closing: “As customers shift on-line we are taking aggressive action to right-size our retail footprint. We are committed to providing great service and every product businesses need. Whether it is in-store, on-line or through mobile. We are working to provide transfer options for associates where possible. Our customers in this area can continue to shop with us at our other locations and online at Staples.com.”

The store east of Owosso opened more than 15 years ago.
