SafeCenter will begin a new sexual assault group on Oct. 12. The group, “Embracing Healing,” is a support group for women who have experienced sexual assault, either as a child or as an adult. The free and confidential group will last approximately 12 weeks and will occur 3:30 to 5 p.m. every Monday.
Embracing Healing is focused on supporting sexual assault survivors by helping to normalize healing and allowing for survivors to not feel so alone in the process. The group will discuss various topics, some of which include, defining sexual assault, coping, safely expressing feelings, dealing with flashbacks, boundaries and practicing self-compassion.
“If you are interested in joining the group or would like to learn more information about it, please call SafeCenter’s 24 hour crisis line at 1-877-952-7283,” it was stated. “If you are a male sexual assault survivor and are interested in SafeCenter services (including starting a support group for men), please call the crisis line to provide your contact information for the Sexual Assault Advocate, who will contact you to discuss this further.”
