U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross, a Democrat from New Jersey, has been hospitalized following a sudden medical emergency related to his gallbladder. His office released a statement on Monday confirming his condition but did not give a timeline for his return to Congress.
The 66-year-old representative is currently being treated at UNC Rex Hospital and will remain there until doctors confirm that he is healthy enough to travel. Once cleared, he will return home to continue his recovery.
Third Democratic Seat Without a Vote in the House
Norcross’s absence adds to a growing concern for the Democratic Party. He is now the third Democrat unable to vote in the House of Representatives, following the deaths of Rep. Sylvester Turner (D-TX) and Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) in March. Special elections to fill their seats have not yet been scheduled.
With Norcross unavailable, the Republican majority in the House stands at 220 members, compared to 212 Democrats, which could impact key votes in the coming weeks.
