Putnam deputies are hunting for a suspect in a child negligence case from a drug house; neighbors are shocked

Action News Jax obtained body camera footage of the dramatic scene in which a Putnam deputy saved a child from overdose.

We learned Wednesday that the mother, Ti’Tashua Thomas, had turned herself in, but detectives are still looking for the second suspect, Bruce Harris.

When detectives obtained a search warrant for suspected child neglect from Thomas and Harris, they discovered that the baby’s home was a “drug house.”

“I can’t even imagine that – it’s such a quiet neighborhood,” neighbor Ron Curdy said.

Neighbors were shocked to learn that there was a “drug house” on their street.

“It makes me sad that that’s in our neighborhood, it really is,” Cordy went on.

This began last Thursday, when deputies responded to a call about an unresponsive baby in Satsuma.

Newly released body camera footage shows Putnam deputy Colt Wade intervening to save the one-year-old.

Wade was eventually able to obtain a pulse from the limp child, thanks in large part to his CPR training. Paramedics arrived and administered Narcan, and the child is expected to recover.

Following medical testing, investigators determined that the baby had consumed an opioid.

Investigators discovered guns, meth, cocaine, and bags of marijuana for sale after executing a search warrant. Bruce Harris, the man in the video, is now wanted on multiple charges, including child neglect.

The baby’s mother, Thomas, was wanted for child neglect, but she turned herself in to the sheriff’s office today.

“I’ve got a 12-year-old girl myself, and oh my god, I couldn’t imagine,” Cordy told the audience.

Sheriff H.D. Gator DeLoach stated, “Taking a pill was probably the best case scenario considering there were loaded guns lying around, a multitude of drugs and residue easily accessible…”

He went on to say that without the deputy, this could have quickly turned into a death investigation.

So, the sheriff intends to hold these two accountable and remove the children from “deplorable conditions.”

After turning herself in, Thomas bonded out of her $100,000 bond approximately 20 minutes later. But Harris is still on the run.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 1-888-277-8477 or download the P3 app. Tips are anonymous and can result in a reward if they lead to an arrest.
