The Shiawassee County Homeless Coalition is presenting its eighth annual Project Connect, a free event aimed at providing support to Shiawassee County residents who are low-income, homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless. It will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Owosso First Church of the Nazarene, 1965 S. M-52, Owosso.

There will be approximately 30 agencies and other organizations offering to help with employment, hygiene, homelessness, preventive services as well as depression and health screenings.

Volunteers for Project Connect are desperately needed. Anyone interested in helping for four hours is encouraged to call (989) 723-3115. Volunteer jobs that are available are: *Exit volunteers; *Food truck volunteers; *Manicure registration volunteer; *Intake volunteers; *Greeters; *Helper volunteers; *Traffic control volunteers.

“Please consider volunteering at this event,” said Rebecca Zemla. “Last year 270 Shiawassee County residents received 1,931 services from various organizations and agencies including health screenings, haircuts, personal needs, depression screening, legal services, employment assistance, food baskets and more.
