Ozark Christian College Women's Basketball won its first NCCAA D-II championship in program history

JOPLIN, Missouri — After defeating defending NCCAA Division II National Champions Simmons College of Kentucky 75-72, the Ozark Christian College Women’s Basketball team was warmly welcomed back to Joplin from Minneapolis.

After winning their first NCCAA Division II Championship in program history, the Lady Ambassadors were greeted by friends and family and escorted by Joplin police.

“I told my team that I just want to put that banner up in the gym so that someday when I take my kids to watch games here, we can say, ‘That was us, that was our team that did that,'” senior guard and MCCC Tournament MVP Emmy Colin says.

“Coming in, we had nothing to lose. We knew we were the underdogs coming in, but we had a lot to prove, were confident, and just had fun,” says junior guard Brooke Nice.

“We believed in ourselves, even though no one else did,” says head coach Kyle Wicklund.

“We had to do it one play at a time, one step at a time, one quarter at a time, and we were able to do it.”
