OWOSSO, Michigan — According to a Facebook post, the city of Owosso’s Department of Public Works (DPW) discovered ten dead birds, but the bird flu has yet to be confirmed in the region.
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is proceeding under the assumption that it is bird flu.
The Owosso Department of Public Works conducts weekly inspections of city-owned riverbanks to collect and document dead birds.
The DNR’s guidelines for properly disposing of deceased birds include keeping pets away, wearing gloves and a mask, double bagging the birds, and throwing them in the trash.
The city is asking residents to report the dead birds to the DNR via this website.
Owosso also reminds residents that the DPW cannot enter private property to remove dead birds.
