Owosso Musicale announces its annual music awards auditions have been scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 25 at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 E. Goodhue St. in Owosso. Middle and senior high students, and college undergraduates may apply. Eligible music students should reside in Shiawassee County, or be taught by a teacher residing in Shiawassee County. Applications are available on the Owosso Musicale website, www.owossomusicale.org/awards-applications, and are also being sent to public and private instructors. The auditions are performed for experienced music judges who provide valuable written feedback for participating musicians.
Auditions are available for music student studying privately, or as a member in good standing of a school choir or band program. Memorization of music performed is required, and the awards will be given based on personal merit.
An undergraduate or beyond college student enrolled as a music major may apply and audition for the $1,200 Dr. Leon Montague Award, which is administered by the Shiawassee Community Foundation. The application will require an essay, two teacher recommendations and a transcript copy. Performance and music education students must audition in person at the Owosso Musical auditions on Sunday, Feb. 25. An applicant in the field of music technology, musicology or music therapy will need to submit a CD or DVD showing, explaining or demonstrating their abilities in their chosen field. CDs and DVDs need to be submitted on or before Thursday, Feb. 15.
Applications are available through participating schools or private music instructors. Applications can also be acquired by contacting co-chairs Ron Davis, (989) 723-6341, or Sharon Robinson, (517) 625-7349. Applications should be postmarked no later than Saturday, Feb. 17 or hand delivered to Ron Davis or Sharon Robinson no later than 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19. A non-refundable registration fee of $20 per entry is required, and a $5 late fee will be applied, if applicable.
