The Owosso Public Schools will participate in “The National Walk to School Day” on Friday, Oct. 2. Owosso High School athletes will return to their respective elementary schools to join the younger students on their walks.

Bryant Elementary School students will meet at Calvary Baptist Church parking lot between 8 to 8:25 a.m. and will begin walking at 8:25 a.m.

Central Elementary School students will meet at Memorial Healthcare between 8 to 8:25 a.m. and will begin walking at 8:25 a.m.

Emerson Elementary School students will meet at St. Joseph Church parking lot between 8 to 8:25 a.m. and will begin walking at 8:25 a.m.

Julie Croy, director of the Blue and Gold After School Program organizes this event each year as part of the Live Healthy Shiawassee initiative. This event promotes physical activity, teaching safe pedestrian skills to children, awareness of how walkable a community is, and where improvements can be made, concern for the environment, reducing traffic congestion, pollution and speed near schools, as well as sharing time with community leaders, parents and children.
