THE SHIAWASSEE COUNTY OLD NEWS BOYS accepted a check for $1,000 from the Greater Durand Chamber of Commerce Cruise Committee recently at the Durand Eagles clubhouse on New Lothrop Rd. in Durand. The proceeds were raised from the Durand End of Summer Cruise that was held over Labor Day weekend, and the money will be used by the Shiawassee County Old News Boys to purchase clothes for needy children all over the county.

The Durand Eagles are the fiduciary of the Old News Boys organization in Shiawassee County, and the group is comprised of the Durand Moose Lodge, the Durand AmVets, and the Burns Township Fire Department. Since 1994, the group has raised $200,660, including $15,389 in 2015, that has allowed the group to provide winter clothes to at least 400 children annually across Shiawassee County. The four service organizations will be selling Old News Boys newspapers on street corners Friday, Dec. 9, and the Durand Eagles will be holding an auction at its clubhouse, located at 5240 New Lothrop Rd.

Present for the check presentation were (from left) Durand Eagles Trustee Chuck Olund, Durand Moose Governor Jim Rogers, Greater Durand Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kathy Olund, and Durand Cruise Committee member Deb Russell.
