THE TENSION AND EXCITEMENT of the Morrice Band students is apparent in the photo to the right, taken just a second before the judge wrote the score down on the scoreboard. Morrice was one of the area bands competing last weekend at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association District 5 competition.
The Morrice Band’s impressive accomplishment is worth noting. At the last minute Saturday morning, four students of the 21-person band were unable to attend. Seven clarinet players were reduced to just three students overnight. The students were understandably concerned, but under the guidance of conductor Mallory Voris, they persevered and received an overall one score.
