Two young ladies will vie for the title of Durand’s Miss Railroad Days Queen 2017 and Attendant. Miss Railroad Days Queen and her Attendant, the Princess, and Prince will be announced at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 10 at a crowning ceremony in the grand ballroom of the Durand Union Station. This year’s contestants are Tierra Barren and Adrianna Hammer.
Tierra Barren is the daughter of Elizabeth Barren. Tierra is 18 years old and is a senior at Durand High School, where she is currently an all “A” student. Tierra is active in the Madrigals Choir, Spanish Club, and Drama. She is a teacher’s assistant where she is working with 6th and 7th-grade students. Tierra’s hobbies include making music, helping others, and learning new things in cosmetics. She also enjoys baking, reading, observing anything scientific, and watching the weather. Tierra does a lot in the community, which includes making warm blankets for the homeless; singing at the Depot, the Senior Care Center, and Genesys; helping with school fundraisers; and helping tutor her peers. Tierra’s plans include going to college to become a nurse. She is hoping to be accepted at U of M and to audition for the school’s chamber choir. Tierra is sponsored by
Adrianna Hammer is the daughter of Malissa Hammer. She is 17 years old and is a senior at Durand High School. Adrianna is active in softball, cheerleading, and the Durand Spanish Club. In the past, she has enjoyed helping coach the middle school’s competitive cheer team and being a part of the Durand Church of God’s Dance Team. Adrianna is hoping to play softball at Mott Community College. She would also like to be an interpreter for the deaf, along with learning occupational therapy. Adrianna is also interested in getting into sports management. Adrianna is sponsored by Papa Joe’s.
Candidates for Miss Railroad Days Queen and Attendant will be interviewed by a panel of judges and will be rated on their introduction, clarity of speech, poise, presentation, personality, and answers to questions posed by the judges. The Miss Railroad Days Queen will receive a $500 scholarship, plus various gifts. Her attendant will receive a $350 scholarship, plus gifts.
Miss Railroad Days Queen, Attendant, Princess, and Prince will represent the annual Railroad Days Festival on May 18 through 21, the weekend after Mother’s Day.
