Michigan Winter Weather Advisory Northern Counties Will See Lake Effect Snow Tonight

Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan residents should brace themselves for worsening weather as lake effect snow and strong winds develop this evening.

Gusts of up to 35 mph may cause whiteout conditions, particularly between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday, affecting roads such as I-75 near Petoskey and Grayling.

According to the National Weather Service, areas in Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, Cheboygan, and Otsego counties may receive an additional 3 to 6 inches of snow.

Drivers should prepare for hazardous travel due to rapidly decreasing visibility and snow-covered roads. Snowfall rates of 0.5 to 1 inch per hour can create hazardous conditions.

Sunday morning will bring some relief, with cloudy skies and highs around 19 degrees. Snow showers are expected to return Monday, with further accumulation possible. Winds could gust up to 40 mph early in the week, causing drifting snow and frigid wind chills.

Residents are urged to travel with caution and to stay up to date with local authorities. If you’re driving, prepare emergency kits and limit your travel during the peak snowfall.
