Michigan National Guard men will deploy to the Middle East

LANSING, Michigan — Soldiers from the Michigan Army National Guard’s (MIARNG) 745th Ordnance Company, based in Grayling, are set to deploy to the Middle East to support Operation Spartan Shield.

The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs reports that this is their fourth deployment since 9/11. The unit’s most recent deployment was in June 2020 to the CENTCOM Theatre to support Operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve. Soldiers are expected to be deployed for up to a year.

“Their mission will focus on safely identifying, disarming, and disposing of hazardous explosive devices while also conducting concurrent training with partner nations,” said U.S. Army Maj. Megan Breen in a news release sent to 6 News.

“Our military families make significant sacrifices during these long separations, and their support is critical to the success of our Soldiers as they deploy overseas,” said US Army Brig. Gen. Ravindra Wagh in a news release sent to 6 News.

The Michigan National Guard Family Programs Office supports and cares for Michigan National Guard service members and their families. They can be reached at 1-888-MICH-FAM.
