ANNOUNCING HIS CANDIDACY for the Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners District 4 is lifelong Durand area resident Brandon Marks. Marks wants to become a servant of Shiawassee County residents who is always accessible, honest, and ready to show up to work hard for his constituents.

He had this to say about his announcement, “I am motivated to run for the District 4 commissioner’s seat because I feel that an unhealthy level of comfort now exists in the top levels of our county’s government. Things have become stagnant and we are paying more and are receiving less services than ever before. I am eager to bring a fresh, new perspective to the county level of government. As District 4 County Commissioner, I will be unafraid to tackle the tough issues and find smart, sustainable solutions. We need elected officials who are willing to put in the time and effort to find appropriate solutions to our budgetary problems. I will ensure our tax dollars are spent wisely. If I am elected to represent you, I will make it a priority to bring accountability to every level of our county’s government.

“I am a tax payer who desires transparency, who is not afraid to speak up or voice my opinion. I feel things can be done better and I will not be afraid to challenge the status quo on your behalf if I am elected. In order for me to accomplish this, I need your vote in the Republican primary on August 2. It’s time for a fresh perspective.”

Marks is a graduate from the University of Michigan-Flint and has been a teacher for six years, currently a secondary teacher at Livingston Christian Schools. His wife, Christina and six-month-old daughter live in Durand. (Courtesy Photo)
