Macy’s has confirmed that it will close four Michigan locations as part of 66 nationwide closures in the first quarter of 2025. The closures are part of a larger effort to create long-term growth for the national department store chain.
The four Michigan locations that will close in the coming weeks are at:
- Genesee Valley Center, 4600 Miller Rd, Flint.
- Grand Traverse Mall, 3400 S. Airport Rd., Traverse City.
- Lakeside Mall, 14200 Lakeside Circle, Sterling Heights.
- Oakland Mall, 500 W. 14 Mile Rd, Troy.
Macy’s says it plans to close 150 underperforming stores across the country in the coming years, while investing in 350 more through fiscal year 2026.
“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go-forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” said Tony Spring, the chairman and CEO of the retail chain.
Since implementing its new strategy, Macy’s claims that the 50 pilot stores have experienced sales growth for three consecutive quarters.
The complete list of 66 store closures can be found here. It is unclear when the next round of store closures will occur.
