Scott Janner, a 33-year-old Kansas man, was arrested at a St. Charles hotel on Sunday, Feb. 17.

According to the Saginaw Sheriff’s Office notice, Janner engaged in conversation with a minor female victim from Saginaw County over the social media app Snapchat, indicating to the minor he was 17-years-old. After being in communication for several weeks, he drove to Saginaw County to meet with the victim, arriving on Sunday, Feb. 17.

The notice stated that the victim informed law enforcement that upon meeting Janner, he forced her into the car and drove her to a motel near St. Charles. He would not let her leave and he engaged in sexual contact with the minor.

When her family learned the victim, their daughter, was missing, they were able to locate her at the hotel. Janner then attempted to flee the area, but an heroic civilian bystander intervened and Janner’s vehicle struck a snowbank preventing him from getting away.

Law enforcement arrived on the scene and Janner was taken into custody in the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 18.

The Saginaw Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with law enforcement from the state of Kansas where there is another investigation surrounding Janner.

Janner has been arraigned in the 70th District Court and is being charged with Ct 1: CSC 1st, Ct 2: CSC 1st, Ct 3: CSC 1st, Ct 4: CSC 1st, Ct 5: CSC 2nd, Ct 6 : Kidnapping and Ct 7: Unlawful Imprisonment.

The Sheriff’s Office is also looking into whether Janner was in contact with other minor females in other states or if there are other victims in the U.S.

The case is still being investigated. If anyone has further information about Janner, please contact Det. Biniecki at (989) 790-5442.
