The Mission Award was established in 1998 to recognize an individual or organization that has assisted the staff in meeting the mission of the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce. The staff nominates an individual who demonstrates a strong commitment to the Chamber and gives generously of his time and talent. The 2016 Mission Award Recipient is Joe Oginsky of Owosso.
Chamber President/CEO Jeff Deason stated, “On behalf of the chamber staff, we are so pleased to honor Joe Oginsky with this year’s Mission Award. Over the last few years, Joe has been busy building the family business, From Town-to-Town Gourmet Pastries, but he has been an instrumental part of Oktoberfest in Downtown Owosso.”
“Joe has served on the planning committee for Oktoberfest since the idea of having a fall event was discussed. He is always positive, offers ideas and shares suggestions from the polka community. He has delivered thousands of Oktoberfest promotional flyers to other polka events throughout the Midwest. Through those efforts, he has brought several hundred visitors to the event. We are
fortunate to have someone with Joe’s knowledge as a founding member of Oktoberfest in Owosso and it helps that he is good friends with Lenny Gomulka!” said Deason.
Joe and Susan Oginsky, owners of From Town-to-Town Gourmet Pastries, sell famous cream horns, kolacki and various pastries – great for restaurants, weddings, holidays and more. They’ve recently started selling in West Michigan and the Detroit area. The Oginskys have been working with experts at Michigan State University on ways to safely ship the delicate pastries without breaking them, and think they may have finally nailed down the secret.
The Mission Award will be formally presented at the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce 2016 Annual Dinner and Awards Night on Thursday, Jan. 28 at D’Mar Banquet & Conference Center, Owosso. Tickets are available at the chamber office or at www.shiawassseechamber.org.
