INTERIM DIRECTOR of the Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility William Hekker introduced himself to the Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners Wednesday, Dec. 16, during the Committee of the Whole meeting. The county’s Health and Human Services Board voted Dec. 8 to hire Hekker and he took over the following day for Rick Cordonnier, who resigned abruptly Dec. 4. Cordonnier was said to have resigned for personal reasons, but has said that he will aid in the transition if needed.

For his part, Hekker does not plan to change a lot as director, either in the day-to-day operations or in the planning of the new Caledonia Township facility that is to be built north of Home Depot on a 10-acre site provided by Memorial Development Corp.

“My goal is to maintain and improve the quality we have now,” Hekker said Wednesday. “The Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility is a tremendous asset for the county. We have a tremendous leadership team and very caring employees. I look forward to working with everyone in Shiawassee County.”

Hekker said the status of the building project has not changed and the groundbreaking ceremony is still planned for the spring. (Independent Photo/GRAHAM STURGEON)
