In Northern Michigan, state police established a cold case team

Otsego County – The beginning of a new year brings something new to the Michigan State Police in Northern Michigan: the formation of the MSP Seventh District Cold Case Team, which will operate from the district headquarters in Gaylord as part of the Special Investigation Section.

The goal of this new team is to review, organize, and maintain the MSP Seventh District cold cases and associated property, as well as to continue the investigations.

The team will be led by Detective Sergeant Matt Wilt and will consist of two detective troopers who have yet to be assigned.

The team will assess the MSP cold cases in Northern Michigan using a metrics system to determine their solvability.

“With the advancement of DNA analysis and other investigative techniques, we want to take a fresh look at some of our older cases,” state police said in a statement. “We want the public and the families to know we have not forgotten about them.”
