In Michigan, a 12-year-old drives a stolen SUV for 100 miles while carrying a shotgun

Some children are ecstatic about the prospect of driving. So they grab a pair of keys and leave. But one 12-year-old boy took things to the next level, stealing an SUV and driving it 100 miles. To make matters worse, the Chevy Blazer had a shotgun and marijuana inside.

Grand Traverse police officers responded to reports of a stolen Chevrolet Blazer around 4:15 a.m. The owner reported the SUV as stolen, saying his 12-year-old son took it.

His parents tracked the Chevy Blazer and reported its whereabouts to police officers in several counties. When it began to move south, one deputy found the ideal position to intercept the young man.

When the kid saw the flashing lights, he pulled over. He came to a stop on southbound U.S.-127 near westbound U.S.-10 in Grant Township.

Officers searched the SUV and found that there were no passengers. However, they discovered and seized a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun with several rounds. They also found marijuana.

According to M Live, there is no evidence that the boy planned to use the weapon. It’s also unclear where the boy intended to go.

He only mentioned that he was unhappy at home. Deputies held the boy in custody until his parents arrived to transport him home.

Deputies filed a report with the Clare County Prosecutor’s Office to petition for the boy to be charged with joy riding, driving without a licence, carrying a concealed weapon, and minor in possession of marijuana.

It’s unclear whether he’ll be charged as an adult. He is quite young, and in Maine, children under the age of seventeen are considered juveniles. Should the parents face charges related to marijuana?
