Heavy snow and wintry mix expected in northern Lower Michigan

Northern Lower Michigan is bracing for a winter storm Monday, with heavy snow and mixed precipitation expected in several areas, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, MI.

The National Weather Service warns that a narrow band of heavy snow, 40 to 60 miles wide, will move from west to east, accumulating 4 to 6 inches. Snowfall will be most intense on the Leelanau Peninsula and in Thunder Bay.

Meanwhile, warmer temperatures from Manistee to Saginaw Bay will result in rain, with sporadic snowfall.

As a cold front moves through, temperatures will drop, and light snow will cover the majority of the region by Monday morning. A more active wintry pattern is expected later this week.
