MEMBERS OF THE HARE RAISERS 4-H CLUB are shown here (back row, from left) Club Cloverbud Project Leader Toni Sovis, Emily Camp, Albert Ellsworth, Michael Klim, Club Leader Sue Klim and Riley Sovis in the front row showing and sharing their rabbits with residents at the Durand Senior Care and Rehab Center on Sunday, Jan. 15.

Residents were allowed to pet and hold the rabbits, while they asked the club members questions. Club Leader Sue Klim says, “It’s an absolute win-win event. This is an incredible opportunity for our youth to learn to have empathy for others, while sharing their rabbit knowledge they’ve gained and taking pride in their 4-H projects. The residents get to have unique visitors to break up their day, and many of them reminisce about growing up on a farm where they once raised rabbits. Beyond heartwarming!”

This is the group’s third trip to the local nursing home/rehab center this winter, and they have, at least, three more visits scheduled. The Hare Raisers are a Shiawassee County club, members range in age from 5 to 16, and are from Corunna, Lennon, New Lothrop, and Owosso. Future members include Maya Sovis and Kelton Camp.
