Golden Corral murder suspects face up to 100 years in jail

Flint Township, Michigan A mother and son from Grand Blanc Township who were convicted of killing a woman outside the Golden Corral restaurant in Flint Township face up to 100 years in prison.

Court records show that Deondre Dawayne McLilly, 25, and Windy Marie Weatherford, 49, were sentenced in Genesee County Circuit Court on Monday.

McLilly will spend 39.5 to 102 years in prison, while Weatherford will serve 33.25 to 102 years.

A Genesee County jury found the mother and son guilty of murder and several other charges in the March 29, 2022 shooting death of 20-year-old Alicia Jackson-Skaggs outside the Golden Corral on Miller Road.

According to authorities, McLilly and Jackson-Skaggs had a romantic relationship that ended badly.

On the night of the shooting, McLilly and Weatherford came across Jackson-Skaggs in the drive-thru of a Culver’s restaurant in Flint Township. He was riding with an unidentified man.

Jackson-Skaggs and her male companion identified McLilly and fled the parking lot. McLilly fired two shots at Jackson-Skaggs’ vehicle as he and Weatherford pursued him at speeds of up to 70 mph in Flint Township.

They all ended up in the Golden Corral parking lot at 4200 Miller Road, where McLilly approached Jackson-Skaggs’ vehicle and opened fire again, according to witnesses. At least one of the bullets struck her in the head.

Her male companion crashed into the Golden Corral sign following the shooting.

Weatherford and McLilly fled the scene following the second shooting. A short time later, Michigan State Police discovered them driving south on I-75 near Bristol Road in Flint Township and pulled them over.

McLilly fled on foot before being apprehended by police near Bristol and Torrey roads, just outside Bishop International Airport. Weatherford was arrested on the freeway.

“While nothing can bring Alicia back, today’s sentencing brings legal justice to both defendants,” said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton. “It was a tragic and senseless act and, I still cannot believe how a mother could have encouraged and aided her son in such a horrific incident.”

McLilly was convicted of the following 26 charges:

  • Second-degree murder.
  • Five counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm.
  • Two counts of aggravated stalking.
  • One count of resisting or obstructing police.
  • 15 weapons charges.

Weatherford was found guilty of the following 19 charges:

  • Second-degree murder.
  • Five counts of assault with intent to murder.
  • 13 weapons charges.

Both McLilly and Weatherford remained in custody at the Genesee County Jail after sentencing while awaiting their transfers to the Michigan Department of Corrections.
