Georgia Winter Weather Update Snowfall and Freezing Temperatures Will Impact Travel Through Wednesday

Peachtree City, Georgia A winter storm warning and weather advisory are in effect for northern and central Georgia, with snowfall and freezing temperatures expected to create hazardous conditions today and Wednesday. Commuters on major roads, including I-75 and I-85, should expect delays as icy patches form.

According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulation could reach four inches in central Georgia, with smaller amounts near Atlanta.

Travel disruptions are expected as roads deteriorate rapidly with snowfall. Drivers are advised to slow down and exercise extreme caution, particularly during the morning and evening commutes.

The forecast calls for snow showers throughout the evening, with temperatures dropping to 13°F tonight. Wind chills can make temperatures feel as low as 5°F. On Wednesday, sunny skies are expected to return, but temperatures will remain freezing, with a high of 38°F.

Looking ahead, conditions will improve later this week, with partly cloudy skies Thursday and highs in the low 40s. By Friday, temperatures are expected to reach 44°F. However, icy roadways may remain in shaded areas, particularly on rural and secondary roads.

Residents should stay informed about changing conditions and follow local updates. For the most up-to-date road conditions, call 511 or go to the Georgia Department of Transportation’s website.

Make sure to dress warmly and leave enough time for travel. The hazardous weather outlook for central Georgia predicts bitter wind chills and icy conditions.
