Former Birch Run substitute teacher and coach are facing allegations

Birch Run, Michigan – A former substitute teacher and junior varsity football coach at Birch Run High School has been charged with making inappropriate communication with students.

Alex Helm is charged with two counts of disseminating, exhibiting, or displaying sexually explicit material to minors, as well as two counts of using a computer for criminal purposes.

Helm is accused of having inappropriate conversations with a student in his class over Snapchat.

The school district placed Helm on leave last year after administrators became aware of the allegations, and he later resigned.

Helm was released on $100,000 and 10% bond following his arraignment.

He is not permitted to have contact with minor children as part of his bond conditions.
