Firefighters spend the weekend fighting natural cover fires in mid-Missouri

Firefighters in mid-Missouri had a busy weekend responding to natural cover fires. The Boone County Fire Protection District says it has responded to 15 fires since Friday evening. The Columbia Fire Department also responded to a brush fire in Capen Park on Friday morning.

Cole County firefighters responded to a commercial structure fire at a turkey barn on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Tri-County Fire Protection District responded to a 10-acre brush fire near Seven Springs Road and Blue Pond Drive. The fire grew from 350 to 400 acres.

The day before, the district responded to three fires in Laclede County, including a vehicle fire in the 32000 block of Garret Road and two natural cover fires in Eldridge and Richland.

On Sunday, the Iberia Rural Fire Protection District responded to back-to-back natural cover fires on Pear Orchard Road and Maries County Road 225, as well as fires on Brays Mill Road and Airport Road the following days.

Several fires broke out in Randolph County on Friday. The Westran Fire Protection District responded to a natural cover fire spanning five acres southwest of Mont Airy.

Another natural cover fire in Clifton Hill engulfed several nearby vehicles. In total, 62 cars were damaged. There was another 10-acre natural cover fire off Highway DD near Armstrong.

The Owensville Fire Department responded to a brush fire in the 1900 block of Roethemeyer Road on Friday. That fire consumed 40 acres. There were also brushfires on Kuhne Road, Highway AC, and Highway K.

The Montgomery Fire Protection District responded to a detached garage fire on South Wentz on Saturday, as well as a natural cover fire in a remote area of north Callaway County on Friday that burned three to four acres.
