The SUMMERPraise! concert series concludes at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, in the Don and Metta Mitchell Amphitheater, 225 N. Water, downtown Owosso, with Stronghold Quartet. Stronghold, based out of the Fowlerville/Howell area, has become a favorite group of SUMMERPraise! fans.
Lynn Webster, event organizer for the summer gospel concert season that started in 1998, says, “We’re delighted to welcome Stronghold back to SUMMERPraise! They have been extremely well-received each year they’ve sung here!”
STRONGHOLD has sung extensively in the Mid-Michigan area for ten years. The group includes several Owosso natives: Don Byers (tenor), Dennis Byers (lead) and sound man Dan Dodd. Jim Kitchen (baritone) and Bill Neathamer (bass) round out the group. They have released five CDs, including their latest, “Blessed.”
The group is focused on encouraging believers in their Christian walk of faith. They have shared concerts with many popular gospel groups, including the Calvarymen, the Crist Family, the Thurstons, The Journeymen, Justified, the Dixie Melody Boys, the Rob Mills Family, Soul’d Out, Tribute Quartet, Statement Of Faith and Gold City.
Webster shared, “We endeavor each year to bring outstanding groups to Owosso. We’re now in our 17th year of SUMMERPraise! This year we’ve already enjoyed the music of the legendary Blackwood Brothers, the Rob Mills Family, the Thurstons and Justified Quartet. We had some threatening weather for the Justified concert, but we stayed at the Amphitheater and enjoyed a great concert!”
A final treat of the season will be “Free” ice cream, generously provided by the Owosso Free Methodist Church, 1249 N. Chipman, where Webster serves as worship leader and Pastor Mark Kincaid is the pastor.
SUMMERPraise! is sponsored by the Owosso-Area Ministerial Association. The Owosso Middle School auditorium is the alternate rain site. An offering for the group’s music ministry will be taken. People attending the concert should take along a lawn chair or blanket. For additional information regarding the concert or the SUMMERPraise! series persons can contact Webster, (989) 723-1288.
